Is that a crazy-ass space opera I hear?

  • Jul. 4th, 2008 at 10:46 PM

Why YES! It just might be! Greetings, mis peeperinas/os. I just signed a contract with Bedazzled Ink and the first short novel will be out in December, rumor has it. You can find out about it at Mindancer, their spec fic imprint. Click HERE. So anyway, I've started the second short novel--and for me, that's about 50K words. I think the fabulous (and fabulously talented) Beth Bernobich (I'm not worthy!!!) explained the difference between a novella, novelette, and novel. I still don't have it quite right, Beth. Some day! I'll get that all squared away.

I'm working with an artist to come up with a cover image so BI can then slap that pup onto the cover. I'm pretty psyched to see what she comes up with. Almost like Cracker Jack with the secret prize at the bottom of the box, amidst the molasses-coated popcorn and peanuts.

Space opera: in my case, think "Firefly" walks into a lesbo galactic bar, hits on "Star Wars," and they jack a space cruiser and zip all over hell and gone having various adventures.

OMG! Land of Entrapment is available for pre-order at Starcrossed Productions. And yes, it will be available on Amazon and barnesandnoble.com. Currently, I'm trying to get them to post the cover image and the synopsis. SIGH. But I do believe that you can go on over there and order it. Here's the cover:

All right. Quick n' dirty (just how I like it sometimes). Catch me blogging at WOW! Women's World, MySpace, and a new blog that my colleague and writer-in-arms Jove Belle asked me to participate in, Women and Words. A group of us will take turns over there talking about writing, creative process, editing, publishing, and whatever else we can come up with. I got roped into guinea pig role, so my blog, "Road Trippin'," about sense of place in my fiction, is up first. Hope you dig it.

And I have re-done my website. So have a looksee at www.andimarquette.com to find out what that's all about. I have a blog there, as well, that I use to keep people updated on things I'm doing as well as cool writer/editor-related things I come across. I also have a "Newsflash" page that keeps news up for a bit longer than a blog and I have info about my forthcoming books (including synopses and excerpts) and info about my published stories (as well as some freebies). WARNING. My writing contains cuss words and "adult situations." Just sayin'. And my Contact page is way easy to use. Just go on over there, fill out the skinny, and click "submit" and YOWZA I get the email. How cool is that? WOO HOOO!

OH! Check THIS out! A couple of my colleagues in South Africa have put together an online lesbian fiction store/networking site. Ultra Violet Book Café offers reviews, discussions, and sells books. I do believe they're trying to work out some permissions so that they can sell in the U.S., but in the meantime, they have a lot of info and they'll be doing featured monthly authors (including myself, eventually...woooo!). It's slick, groovy, and they're just the nicest people ever. Hope you check it out.

Sunday I'm off to Denver and then to Reno. From there I'll drive 35 miles northeast to Pyramid Lake and the Paiute Indians there. I'm interviewing the coach of a high school girls' basketball team, the team, and hanging out in the community for a day. The team is getting ready to go to NABI--the Native American Basketball Invitational tournament in Phoenix in about 2 weeks (ah, Phoenix in July! Say it with me, now: BLAST FURNACE!). I'll be catching part of that tournament live, watching how the Paiute team fares and eventually and hopefully that piece will become an article in High Country News, where I interned from January through May. And then the end of July, more Phoenix (hooked on Phoenix!) for the GCLS conference.

WHEW! I think that gets y'all caught up! Hope everyone had a reasonably okay 4th if you were here in the States and if not, hope all is well with you and your'n anyhoo!

Congratulations on the contracts for your novels. Can't wait to read 'em!

I'll be in Phoenix for the GCLS conference, too. You still up for going to get that drink?

Hey, Mary! OF COURSE we'll hang out at GCLS! YEAH!

FER SURE, y'know! I'll be staying at the hotel, so just find me. Though I'm sure you'll hear me running around and yelling effusively to people. That's usually how folks know it's me.

Beth, I so love you. In a purely platonic way, of course. ;-)
